Landscape Quilting

Landscape quilting is a style of art quilting that uses fabric, thread and mixed media to create realistic or imaginary outdoor scenes, such as mountains, forests or oceans.  Instead of following a repeating geometric block pattern, makers layer raw-edge shapes, paint on fabric and use free-motion stitching to “paint” with thread.  Artists frequently enhance the fabric using oil pastels, acrylic paints or ink pens for realistic lighting and shading.
